One lucky lotto scratch card winner is focusing on the sunny side of life by planning to use her winnings to install solar panels on the family home, and hopefully take a sun soaked holiday as well.
Anne Foley from Kilkenny got a hell of a birthday surprise when a €10 scratch card turned into a €50,000 windfall after a few steps in between.
In a colourful twist of fate, one of the gifts Anne received during the surprise celebration for her 60th was an envelope with a birthday card and a scratch card.
This wasn’t the fateful scratch card, and wouldn’t the gift giver live on that story forever if it was, but after winning a modest €10 prize Anne decided to take that down to the local shop and trade up.
At Walshe’s Shop on Main Street, Stoneyford, Co. Kilkenny Anne used her winnings on a Bingo Multiplier Scratch Card where she won a staggering €50,000.
This was an incredible shock, not only for the prize itself but because just 8 years ago on her 52nd birthday, she had won the exact same amount on a Scratch Card gifted to her by her mother.
The similarities were uncanny. It was the same time of day, and her son was in the shower, just as he had been eight years ago.
Her husband, David, called her to check in on his way home from work, just like before. It was as if time had folded in on itself, creating a magical moment of synchronicity.
“I was lost for words – I couldn’t believe that it had happened again! The fact that it all unfolded just like it did 8 years ago, almost spooked me out, but I wasn’t complaining!”
With a clear sense of priorities Anne had used her previous win for some home improvements and clearing debt, and is looking at investing in rooftop solar PV this time.
“The last time I won, we were able to clear the remainder of our mortgage and tackle some home improvements that I had on the list, it really made such a difference to our lives.”
Anne couldn’t help but laugh at the sheer strangeness of it all. “Lightning really does strike twice”, she cried.
This time Anne hopes to add solar panels to her home, and also hopes to take a trip to the Caribbean to soak up some sun with her husband as the travel the islands, as well she should after the weather we’ve had.
