Selling solar energy is a relatively simple process as long as you have a smart meter installed on your property.

In the vast majority of cases, home solar PV panels do not require planning permission, regardless of how large an area they cover. The only restrictions that apply are for areas around airports, hospitals with helipads, and areas where they might interfere with air traffic, or protected monuments or architectural conservation areas.

To encourage the adoption of renewable energy, the Irish Government removed VAT on residential panels and their installation in May 2023.
